Where Did It All Begin?
The roots of Innovation Home go back to 1989, when founders Katja Kojo and Petra Erätuli-Kola became friends in middle school. They made a pact to start a company together before turning 40. In 2015, Katja reached out to Petra, who had just returned from Silicon Valley, where she had experienced an inspiring local work culture. Innovation Home was born from their shared passion to transform Finnish work culture—making it more innovative and community-driven. After a successful pilot, Innovation Home Otaniemi opened its doors in 2017, together with a thriving startup community. The founders were soon backed by a group of well-known angel investors. From its home base, the Innovation Home energy began spreading across multiple locations.
The pandemic reshaped work culture. Innovation Home didn’t just adapt—it prepared for the future. In 2021, the company welcomed a new investor, service-sector-focused private equity firm Kovanen Capitalin. The following year saw the long-planned launch of Innovation Home Kamppi, a next-level concept housed in a fully renovated building in collaboration with Capmanin. The space quickly filled with successful people and meaningful events. The company also grew in Tampere, opening a larger location in the Finlayson area in partnership with Varman. Innovation Home began gaining recognition as a prominent workspace and meeting hub in the business world.
With hybrid work, the demand for flexible offices has only increased, and people now come to the office to connect with others. Innovation Home’s versatile workspaces and efficient shared areas bring people together in an inspiring work culture. The company is now aiming for its next growth phase with an updated strategy. The energy and lessons of the founders have been passed forward—Petra Erätuli-Kola is no longer involved in the company, and Katja Kojo now contributes from the board, working alongside fellow board members Tuomas Helle (Chair), Eeva Kovanen, Panu Luukka, and Heikki Kovanen to develop the business further.
